ADNOC deploys AI to autonomously monitor field and plant operations
Neuron 5 autonomously monitors performance of equipment and processes
#UAE #energy - ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), has announced that a new cutting-edge AI-enabled process optimisation platform called Neuron 5 is now operational on ADNOC Onshore’s Northeast Bab field and ADNOC Gas’s Taweelah plant. Ten months in the making, the new autonomous solution was developed by ADNOC’s Thamama Excellence Centre, Abu Dhabi-based energy-sector AI company AIQ, and global industrial software leader AVEVA. Based on pilot deployments, ADNOC expects Neuron 5 to reduce unplanned shutdowns by 50 percent and increase maintenance intervals by 20 percent.
SO WHAT? - ADNOC's deployment of Neuron 5 marks a another milestone towards the group’s vision to become the world's most AI-enabled energy company. The energy giant’s efforts to introduce AI at all levels of the organisation began with harnessing the wealth of data it has at its disposal to provide better and more comprehensive analytics across its operations. ADNOC’s opening of the Panorama Digital Command Centre at its headquarters in 2017, made that data accessible to senior management in real-time. Over the past few years, ADNOC has increasingly focused on automation. In 2023, it announced an autonomous well-control system together with AIQ and Haliburton, which is being deployed across 300 onshore and offshore wells this year. Neuron 5 will further automate ADNOC operations, increasing efficiency and driving down costs.
Here are some key points about Neuron 5:
ADNOC Group has announced the launch of Neuron 5, an AI platform that monitors equipment autonomously, analysing sensor data such as pressure, temperature, and vibration to predict maintenance needs and optimise performance.
Neuron 5 has initially been deployed at ADNOC Onshore’s Northeast Bab field and ADNOC Gas’s Taweelah plant, where it has demonstrated significant potential, reducing unplanned shutdowns by 50% and increasing planned maintenance intervals by 20%.
The technology is set for full rollout across all ADNOC facilities, covering thousands of critical pieces of equipment, including compressors, valves, and generators, across upstream and downstream facilities.
Neuron 5 was developed by ADNOC's Thamama Centre of Excellence, Abu Dhabi-based energy-sector AI company AIQ, and global industrial software leader AVEVA.
Neuron 5 supports ADNOC’s long-term goals of boosting efficiency, minimising operational risks, and maintaining its competitive edge in the energy sector.
