Gemini Pro offered to students in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE
#UAE #education – University students in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have now all been offered 12 months of complimentary access to Google’s generative AI model Gemini Pro. Google announced the offer for university students in Egypt and Saudi Arabia last month, followed by an offer for Iraq, Jordan and the UAE this week. All university students aged 18 and above can register for the free subscription. Students in Egypt and Saudi Arabia must apply before November 3rd, while students in Iraq, Jordan and the UAE should apply before 9th December.
SO WHAT? – Google’s offer for Gemini Pro extends to thousands of university students across Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Gemini includes the new Guided Learning feature, available in Arabic and English, which helps students develop a deep understanding of educational topics, via interactive conversations. The roll-out of the free subscription will be Google’s biggest test of its Gemini LLM in the Arab world and the Arabic language support that it offers.
Here are the key details of the Gemini Pro offer:
University students in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have now all been offered 12 months of complimentary access to Google’s generative AI model Gemini Pro in 40 languages, including Arabic.
Students will access the full suite of Gemini Pro features including Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google’s most capable model for complex tasks such as analysis, brainstorming and content generation, alongside Deep Research which compiles multi-source insights and drafts initial research summaries.
Students will gain access to Guided Learning, a new mode that acts as a learning companion, guiding users with questions and step-by-step support. It allows students to work through things like complex math problems.
Other features included in the subscription include NotebookLM, an AI-powered tool that helps organise ideas with expanded audio and video overview capabilities, and Veo 3, which transforms text or photos into eight-second videos with sound for multimedia content creation.
Students also receive 2 terabytes of cloud storage across Google Drive, Photos, Gmail and Docs, enabling them to summarise lectures, create interactive quizzes, convert notes into multimedia formats and accelerate academic workflows using generative AI capabilities.
Google Trends data shows a 110% increase in AI and study-related searches in the UAE over the past two months compared to the same period last year.
The deadline for students from Egypt and Saudi Arabia to register for the free Gemini Pro subscription is November 3rd, while the deadline for Iraq, Jordan and UAE students is December 9th.
