ASUS, Intel open AI Lab in Ibri area
AI lab targets student and teacher AI skills in Al Dhahirah Governorate
#Oman #education - Taiwanese computer maker ASUS has opened an AI Lab at the Directorate-General of Education in Ibri, Al Dhahirah Governorate, working alongside US chipmaker Intel and Muscat-based technology and engineering firm Bahwan Projects & Telecoms. The facility is ASUS Education’s first AI-focused project in the region and equips classrooms and research spaces with AI PCs, rugged Chromebooks and all-in-one devices built on Intel’s Core Ultra processors. The project supports Oman’s National Program for Artificial Intelligence.
SO WHAT? - The lab is a small-scale but telling example of how global hardware makers are positioning education as an entry point into Gulf AI strategy, pairing consumer-facing devices with national digital-skills agendas. For Oman, it adds a training facility that supports a key policy goal, feeding AI literacy directly into classrooms. Meanwhile, the lab location is near to the largest oil field in Oman, providing another imperative for the government to upskill the region’s youth.
KEY POINTS:
ASUS, working with Intel and Bahwan Projects & Telecoms, opened an AI Lab at the Directorate-General of Education in Ibri, the largest city in Al Dhahirah Governorate.
The lab is the first AI-focused project ASUS Education has delivered in the region, aimed at upskilling students, supporting educators and encouraging research.
Devices deployed include ASUS’s ExpertBook P3405, P5405, B1403 and B3405 business laptops, alongside a range of All-in-One PCs, rugged Chromebooks and AI PCs.
The hardware runs on Intel’s Core Ultra processors, which combine CPU, GPU and NPU engines to power on-device AI applications for creativity and productivity tasks.
ASUS’s ExpertBook is design for hybrid learning, with long battery life, strong connectivity and a lower carbon footprint.
The initiative supports the country’s National Program for Artificial Intelligence, both aimed at building AI readiness and a knowledge-based economy.
Bahwan Projects & Telecoms, part of Suhail Bahwan Group, which works across telecoms, construction, oil and gas, and defence sectors, provided the local implementation.
ASUS says it has deployed education technology in more than 100 countries, working with governments across the Middle East, Asia and Europe on national digital learning programmes.
