#Qatar #investment - Canadian alternative asset manager Brookfield has opened an office in Doha focused on its global credit platform, including Oaktree, which is acquired this year. The move builds on a planned $20 billion joint venture with Qai, the Qatar Investment Authority’s AI subsidiary, to develop AI infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets. Brookfield currently manages about $20 billion of assets across the GCC, spanning private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure. Globally, it manages more than $1 trillion.
SO WHAT? - Brookfield is committing to staff on the ground following its regional investment deals. Its total Gulf assets under management currently match the size of its planned Qai venture, so the Qatar deal alone could double its regional footprint. The company says the Doha office is credit-led, which suggests Brookfield sees Qatar as a source of lending and financing business as well as AI infrastructure. The release gives no headcount or timeline for the venture.
