CUD opens new Bachelor in Design and AI for 2026-2027 intake
#UAE #education - Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has introduced a new Bachelor of Science in Design and Artificial Intelligence (BSc DAI), which combines design studio work with computing, mathematics and AI. The degree covers visualisation, interaction design, human-computer interaction, programming and AI-enabled design processes. The curriculum is aimed at preparing graduates for careers spanning spatial, product and service design. The BSc DAI was added to meet the growing demand for professionals who can combine design thinking with computational and AI capabilities. Applications are now open for entry in Fall 2026.
SO WHAT? - Design has typically been taught separately from computer science at university level. Meanwhile, the increasing demand for AI skills has put pressure on students to study afterwards or in training courses outside of the university curricula. CUD’s programme takes the opposite approach, training designers and technologists as the same discipline rather than two skill sets bolted together. That matters for a design sector where AI-generated visuals, generative design tools and computational modelling are becoming standard.

The programme emphasises human-centred, data-informed design, teaching students to apply AI techniques and algorithmic thinking. The BSc. also considers ethical, social, cultural and environmental implications.
Experiential learning includes design studios, internships and collaborative industry projects, alongside sustainability, entrepreneurship, research and community engagement components.
Massimo Imparato, Dean of Canadian University Dubai’s School of Architecture and Interior Design, expects the programme to equip students with the technical ability, creative vision and ethical understanding to lead innovation in the design industry.
Graduates will learn to develop intelligent products, responsive environments, interactive experiences and digital services that adapt to evolving user needs.
The degree is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and follows CUD’s Canadian curriculum model.
Applications for the BSc. DAI programme are open now for entry in Fall 2026.
