Dubai wins bid to host ICCV 2029!
World's premier computer vision conference to be held in the UAE
#UAE #computervision - Dubai's Crown Prince, HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced that the emirate has won the bid to host the 2029 International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV29), a global event organised by the Computer Vision Foundation and sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Held every other year, the 4-5 day event is attended by thousands. The win further boosts Dubai's growing reputation as a global AI hub. The government expects some 15,000 AI industry leaders, experts, and other stakeholders to attend and discuss the global future of artificial intelligence and computer vision. ICCV29 is scheduled for Sunday 2nd to Thursday 6th December, 2029.
SO WHAT? - The International Conference on Computer Vision is considered to be one of the top conferences in computer vision in the world, and gathers the global computer vision research community. So, whilst there is a commercial element to the ICCV, it will bring thousands of computational science researchers to the region. Something that doesn’t happen that often.
Here are some more details of ICCV29:
Dubai's Crown Prince, HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced Dubai has won the bid to host the 2029 International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV29) via social media. The final vote was taken by committee members last month, after the 2024 Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition in Seattle, USA.
ICCV is organised by the Computer Vision Foundation, sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and takes place at a different venue every two years.
The Computer Vision Foundation is a non-profit organisation established to foster and support research on all aspects of computer vision, including conferences, such as Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) and ICCV.
According to the new ICCV29 website, the conference is scheduled to take place from 2 to 6 December 2029.
General Chairs for ICCV29 are:
Prof. Tinne Tuytelaars, Professor at PSI research division of KU Leuven's ESAT;
Prof. Ivan Laptev, Visiting Professor of Computer Vision at Mohamed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI);
Prof. Marc Pollefeys, Professor of Computer Science at ETH Zurich and the Director of the Microsoft Mixed Reality and AI Lab in Zurich;
Prof. Philip Torr, Professor of Engineering Science, Royal Academy of Engineering and Research Chair in Computer Vision and Machine Learning, Advisor to Five AI.
ZOOM OUT - Dubai has been working hard to position itself as a global hub for AI, robotics and Web3 technologies, drawing a growing number of foreign technology companies to the emirate. Meanwhile, as the conference capital of the Middle East, there are already many AI conferences in Dubai’s event calendar and its world-class facilities make it an attractive venue for global conferences that need to cater for thousands of delegates. So, the Computer Vision Foundation’s decision to choose the emirate as a venue for ICCV29 is a win for Dubai in more than one respect. However, bringing the brightest minds in computer vision to Dubai in 2029, is also a big win for the UAE overall, and supports its ambitious goals to become a global leader in shaping AI policy, regulation, investment and the technologies themselves.
