#Egypt #education - Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has signed an MoU with US chipmaker Intel to train one million Egyptian citizens annually in artificial intelligence, safe technology use and digital trust over three years. The programme will prepare 1,500 certified trainers, 500 a year, to deliver AI courses and pass on knowledge to local education and training institutions. It supports Egypt’s second national AI strategy for 2025-2030, which targets training 30,000 AI specialists and raising AI’s contribution to GDP to 7.7 percent by the end of the decade.
SO WHAT? - A number of global tech vendors have agreed AI training programmes with the Egyptian government over the past couple of years, but the million student target announced today is by far the biggest number to-date. This new initiative is also wider in scope than those previously announced, aiming to increase AI literacy among non-technology specialists. The Intel-led training initiative aims to students, jobseekers, workers and government officials at the same time.

Training will begin with Intel’s “AI for Citizens” programme, which simplifies AI concepts and practical applications, followed by a second programme, “Digital Trust for All,” focused on safe and responsible technology use.
The initiative targets a broad range of groups, including children and young people, technical-school and university students, workers seeking reskilling, jobseekers and government officials.
Intel and Egypt’s communications ministry will also run technical workshops on Intel’s AI computing and infrastructure technology, and support top participants in an annual AI hackathon, with standout entrants presenting at Intel’s global AI impact festival.
The agreement supports Egypt’s second national AI strategy for 2025-2030, which aims to train 30,000 AI specialists by 2030.
The number of Egyptians receiving digital skills training rose from about 4,000 in FY2018/19 to 500,000 in FY2024/25, while Egypt’s digital exports grew from $3.3 billion in 2018 to $7.4 billion in 2025.
ZOOM OUT - The Intel deal is the latest in a series of similar agreements between the Egyptian government and global tech firms over the past 18 months. IBM committed to training 100,000 Egyptians in AI skills over five years through its SkillsBuild platform in May 2025, Microsoft agreed a matching 100,000-person target that April, and Huawei partnered with three Egyptian universities to reach 25,000 students. Oracle followed in April 2026 with training grants for 150,000 young Egyptians in cloud computing. Layered together, the agreements point to a deliberate strategy: use foreign tech partnerships to build AI and digital skills at a scale Egypt couldn't fund alone.
