G42 Group open-sources 20 Jais AI models
#UAE #LLMs - G42’s R&D company Inception has released Jais 70B and 20 other AI models for Arabic NLP, under open-source licencing. Jais 70B is the largest and most powerful Jais model to be released to-date and, according to the developer, was pre-trained using the largest Arabic dataset ever used to train an open-source foundational model. The family of 20 Jais models is the largest single release of large language models in the Middle East and North Africa. (Middle East AI News)

Oracle launches second Saudi public cloud region

#Saudi #gaming - The Augmented Reality and e-Games Technologies Institute, at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has embarked on a variety of research projects for AI in gaming. The research includes studies on player behaviour and performance and developing player skills in e-sports through artificial intelligence. (SPA)
Oman develops AI project to count trees
#Oman #agriculture - A pilot project in Oman is combining the use of space data, AI and drones to identify and count tree species, such as palm trees, lime trees and mango trees. The project is being run by the AI and Advanced Technologies Projects Unit of the countrys Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, and has achieved a success rate of 90 per cent. ATHKA winners join Oxford University programme
#Saudi #UK #education - Ten ATHKA winners have been selected to take part in the prestigious Scholars Programme, a joint initiative by Oxford University and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). The students were among 300 finalists in ATHKA, the National Olympiad for Programming and Artificial Intelligence, which concluded in April. (Arab News)
2,400 students join Abu Dhabi summer AI programme
