#UAE #Greece - Abu Dhabi AI powerhouse G42 and five of its portfolio companies have signed memoranda of understanding in Athens covering an AI factory, government services, life sciences and smart cities. Khazna Data Centers and sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure company Core42 will explore building an AI factory with Greek energy and infrastructure firm Copelouzos Group. G42 group companies Presight, Inception42 and M42 will work with Greek government and life sciences partners. The announcement gives no investment figures or indications of any project scopes or sizes.
SO WHAT? - G42 is exporting its full AI stack into the European Union, from data centres to government agents. The MoUs in Greece follow strategic deals signed in France and Italy over the past 18 months, plus the opening of a corporate G42 office in London and a Core42 European headquarters in Dublin. Although the MoUs are not binding, and scope, structure and timelines are still to be agreed, they align with the trade aims of the UAE’s official delegation visiting Greece this week.
KEY POINTS:
G42 and five portfolio companies signed MoUs with Greek government and private-sector partners this week, during an official UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade visit to Athens that included the UAE-Greece Business Forum.
Khazna Data Centers and Core42 will explore an AI factory with Copelouzos Group. Khazna would lead on physical infrastructure for the project, while Core42 would supply cloud and AI compute for sectors including banking, telecommunications, shipping and government.
Presight aims to work with Greece’s Ministry of Digital Governance on AI-powered urban analytics and real-time intelligence for public safety, mobility and municipal operations. Early work will test agentic AI on waste management and water-network monitoring.
Meanwhile, agentic AI products company Inception42 will explore agentic AI in Greek government and education, also working with the Ministry of Digital Governance. Plans include tools to support cabinet meetings and track government priorities, training for officials to work with AI agents, and AI tutors.
M42 signed an MoU with Athens LifeTech Park. The agreement covers genomics sequencing infrastructure, population genomics, clinical development and linking biobanks. Priority areas are oncology, rare genetic diseases and neuroscience.
The M42 deal includes a two-way programme: UAE life sciences start-ups get a base at the Athens LifeTech Park Incubator for European market entry, while Greek and European ventures gain access to the UAE through M42’s network.
The agreements potentially extend G42’s Intelligence Grid, its model for combining data centres, compute, cloud infrastructure and industry applications, into the Greek market.
All projects are subject to definitive agreements and regulatory approvals. The parties will now define scope, structure and timelines, and the proposed projects will be developed in line with EU regulations and standards.
