Inception42 advances Arabic AI for enterprise with Seraj
Seraj built on GPT-4.1 in collaboration with Microsoft for enterprise deployment
#UAE #LLMs — Abu Dhabi AI products company Inception42, part of the G42 group, has launched Seraj, an Arabic-first enterprise AI model built jointly with US technology giant Microsoft and available through Core42’s sovereign AI platform Compass. Built on OpenAI’s GPT-4.1 model and enhanced through targeted mid-training on curated Arabic language datasets, Seraj is designed to close the gap between frontier AI performance and Arabic linguistic accuracy for government and enterprise users. Target sectors include legal services, Islamic studies, financial services, education, media and government operations.
SO WHAT? — Most frontier AI models were built in English and retrofitted for Arabic, with mixed results. Arabic dialect comprehension, cultural context and safety handling have remained weak points that have slowed enterprise adoption across the Gulf. Meanwhile, Arabic language foundation models have advanced language technology, but struggled to meet enterprise standards. Seraj was built applying mid-training techniques to GPT-4.1 using domain-specific Arabic content rather than building a new model from scratch. That approach lets it carry GPT-4.1’s reasoning and multilingual strengths while shoring up the Arabic gaps that have made deployment risky in high-stakes sectors.
KEY POINTS:
G42’s Inception42 (previously named Inception), has launched a new Arabic large language model Seraj, in collaboration with Microsoft.
Seraj is built on GPT-4.1 and enhanced through targeted mid-training on curated Arabic datasets covering linguistics, cultural knowledge, safety scenarios and domain-specific enterprise content. It is now the main Arabic-first LLM available via Compass, the sovereign AI platform operated by Core42.
The model is designed for government and enterprise use cases including document understanding, summarisation, translation, question answering, workflow automation, bilingual Arabic-English applications and retrieval-augmented generation.
Target sectors include government services, legal analysis, Islamic studies, financial services, education and media, where Arabic fluency and cultural context are critical to deployment.
Unlike Arabic-first models built from the ground up, Seraj’s architecture preserves GPT-4.1’s underlying reasoning and multilingual performance while adding Arabic-specific capability on top.
The model’s name comes from the Arabic word for “light” or “illumination,” and Inception42 positions it as a solution to the longstanding trade-off between global AI capability and Arabic performance.
Seraj’s availability via Compass means it sits within a sovereign deployment environment, relevant for government clients with data residency and compliance requirements.
Inception42 describes itself as the intelligence layer of the G42 Intelligence Grid, focused on sovereign AI deployments for governments and enterprises at national scale.
ZOOM OUT - Founded in late 2017 as a fundamental and applied research hub, Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IIAI) was the first dedicated AI research organisation to open in the region. As such, it played a key role in bringing world-class AI researchers to Abu Dhabi, from institutions such as Cambridge University, Oxford University, ETH, MIT, Stanford, UCLA and Tsinghua University. In 2023, G42 rebranded the organisation as simply ‘Inception’, but later that year decided to merge it with its cloud services company G42 Cloud and its 2020 IT integrator acquisition Injazat, to form Core42. Then in August 2024, G42 relaunched Inception as a stand-alone company, repositioning it as a product-first developer in 2025. Last month, the company rebranded itself as Inception42.
