Luma AI secures $900M in Series C round led by HUMAIN
PaLuma AI takes HUMAIN–AMD Venture’s first 100MW capacity
#UnitedStates #SaudiArabia #funding – Frontier AI startup Luma AI has raised $900 million in Series C funding led by Saudi Arabia sovereign AI company HUMAIN, with major participation from AMD Ventures and existing US venture investors. The investment ties directly to HUMAIN’s $10 billion joint venture with US chipmaker AMD, which has now confirmed Luma AI as the first customer for 100MW of compute. The funding and capacity will support Project Halo, a planned 2GW (gigawatt) AI supercluster in Saudi Arabia and accelerate the HUMAIN-LUMA AI CREATE initiative announced in June.
SO WHAT? – The $900 million raise, combined with early access to hyperscale compute, places Luma AI among the best-funded multimodal AI startups globally. It also validates Saudi Arabia’s strategy of aligning capital, sovereign-scale compute and frontier model developers to build competitive advantages in next-generation AI infrastructure and applications. The agreement with Luma AI to take the full compute capacity of the AMD-HUMAIN AI data centre network’s first phase of 100MW positions the partnership for rapid build-out of additional phases.
Key points announced include:
Luma AI’s $900 million Series C round was led by Saudi Arabia sovereign AI company HUMAIN, with participation from AMD Ventures and existing US venture investors Andreessen Horowitz, Amplify Partners and Matrix Partners, marking one of the largest AI Series C raises of 2025.
As part of the funding agreement, Luma AI becomes the first customer of HUMAIN’s $10 billion joint venture with US AI infrastructure firm AMD, securing the initial 100MW of data centre capacity from the upcoming global AI hyperscaler.
HUMAIN is developing Project Halo, a 2-gigawatt AI supercluster in Saudi Arabia designed to train and serve frontier multimodal World Models. The cluster is expected to rank among the world’s largest training environments, providing the infrastructure backbone for high-fidelity simulation, advanced robotics and multimodal intelligence research.
Luma AI aims to build multimodal AGI capable of understanding and operating in the physical world, requiring training on peta-scale datasets many orders of magnitude larger than current large language models.
The Series C funding accelerates development of large-scale World Models that integrate video, image, audio and language data to advance real-world reasoning and simulation capability.
Luma’s technology roadmap includes Ray3, its reasoning video model used by global brands and embedded in third-party platforms such as Adobe products, demonstrating commercial traction in creative industries.
HUMAIN and Luma AI previously launched HUMAIN Create, a joint initiative building regional AI models trained on Arabic and culturally specific data to support enterprises and governments across the Middle East and North Africa.
The HUMAIN–AMD hyperscaler will use AMD’s full-spectrum compute stack, including CPUs, GPUs and the ROCm platform, and forms part of Saudi Arabia’s strategy to cultivate “silicon diversity” across AMD, NVIDIA and Groq ecosystems.
ZOOM OUT – Important context for today’s funding and compute commitments is the the HUMAIN Create initiative announced by HUMAIN and Luma AI in June 2025. The initiative aims to apply frontier multimodal video models to gaming, films and digital advertising, combining Luma’s Ray-series technology with HUMAIN’s Arabic language models and full-stack infrastructure. By enabling culturally aligned, highly adaptive and real-time creative content, the two companies to challenge Western-dominated content ecosystems and to serve growing demand for personalised, context-aware media across the Middle East and global markets.
