Welcome to this week’s Middle East AI News! Apologies for the later than usual newsletter (which I blame on the flu!).
Another bumper news week for AI across the region! Last Sunday evening Dubai’s Crown Prince announced the emirate’s new Global Prompt Engineering Championship, which kicked off the week’s AI buzz. There have been several government announcements prioritising tech and AI, including the Khalifa Fund’s new financial products for UAE entrepreneurs. And then we have the new $125 million tech fund registered at DIFC by Raiven Capital.
Meanwhile, Saudi Aramco is ramping up its R&D efforts, announcing a deal with Nokia Bell Labs and sharing its plans to expand AI research teams. Much more news below (again, I ran out of space for this newsletter!)

New $125m emerging markets tech fund

Khalifa Fund launches new funding for entrepreneurs

Dubai’s Global Prompt Engineering Championship
#UAE #GenAI - The Government of Dubai has launched a new Global Prompt Engineering Championship with a total of AED 1 million ($272,000) in prize money. The competition aims to attract some the brightest prompt engineers to Dubai and position the emirate as a destination for Generative AI talent. Saudi GenAI accelerator open for applications
#Saudi #startups - Riyadh-based GAIA - the region's first generative AI accelerator - held its graduation ceremony for its first cohort of startups on Thursday.
