Qatar pipe maker builds AI maintenance platform in-house
APC Maintenance Hub automates engineering, inventory and asset management
#Qatar #manufacturing – Doha-based pipes and precast concrete manufacturer Advanced Pipes & Casts Co. (APC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Qatar Stock Exchange-listed diversified conglomerate Aamal Company has launched an AI-powered maintenance platform developed entirely in-house. The APC Maintenance Hub integrates AI into day-to-day maintenance operations, covering asset management, engineering drawing generation, spare parts inventory, supplier identification and real-time operational analytics: all through a single unified platform.
SO WHAT? – Manufacturers in the GCC are advancing faster than any other region globally in adopting and scaling industrial AI and other emerging technologies. However, most projects are heavily dependent on external technology partners. APC seems to have built this platform itself, from scratch, to solve real operational problems in a heavy industrial environment. The new platform demonstrates that in-house AI solution development is within reach of those industrial companies willing to invest in internal talent and capability.
KEY POINTS:
Doha-based pipes and precast concrete manufacturer Advanced Pipes & Casts Co. (APC) has launched the APC Maintenance Hub, an AI-powered platform developed in-house to transform maintenance operations across its pipe and precast concrete manufacturing facility. The platform is now live and integrated into daily maintenance workflows.
The platform was built to address specific operational challenges faced by APC’s maintenance teams, including fragmented data, slow troubleshooting, and manual inventory processes. Its development was led internally by the Maintenance Department.
AI-powered engineering tools allow users to generate drawings from images or descriptions and automatically extract technical specifications directly from machine nameplates. This reduces the time engineers spend on documentation and accelerates fault diagnosis in a complex manufacturing environment.
APC’s inventory management has been substantially automated. The platform processes delivery notes, invoices and Excel-based records without manual input, and uses AI to identify suitable local and international suppliers for spare parts — addressing one of the more time-consuming aspects of industrial maintenance management.
An AI Chat Assistant provides maintenance teams instant access to live operational data, allowing users to query maintenance records, inventory levels and machine performance in real time. The assistant supports faster decision-making and aims to reduce dependence on manual reporting chains.
Meanwhile, analytics capabilities provide managers and engineers with actionable insights across machine performance, maintenance trends, inventory levels and workforce scheduling. The platform shifts maintenance management from a reactive to a proactive model: a meaningful operational change for a high-throughput manufacturing environment.
APC is one of the leading pipe manufacturers in the Middle East, operating a highly automated production facility specialising in concrete pipes, precast elements, tunnel segments, bridge components and railway foundations. The Maintenance Hub adds a further layer of digital capability to an already technically advanced operation.
Parent company Aamal Company operates 32 active business units across industrial, retail, property, managed services, and medical equipment and pharmaceutical sectors. The APC platform aligns with Aamal’s stated strategy of embedding technology-driven innovation across its portfolio of businesses.
ZOOM OUT – Middle East manufacturers are moving faster on industrial AI than any other region in the world. Rockwell Automation's recent 11th annual State of Smart Manufacturing Report, based on research with more than 1,500 manufacturing leaders across 17 countries, finds that 98 percent of Middle East manufacturers recognise digital transformation as essential (a figure that significantly outpaces Europe, the United States and the global average). Regional manufacturers are backing that conviction with close to 30 percent of operating budgets allocated to industrial technology investment. AI and machine learning are identified as delivering the strongest return on investment of any technology across the region, and adoption has now reached near-universal levels.
