Qualcomm & SDAIA launch ALLaM AI PC at LEAP25
ALLaM AI PC and Hybrid AI Cloud brings sovereign AI to the Edge
#Saudi #LEAP25 - US semiconductor company Qualcomm and Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) have launched the ALLaM AI PC, a first-of-its-kind fully integrated AI personal computer with on-device AI and seamless hybrid AI cloud access. Announced on day one of LEAP25 in Riyadh, the new ALLaM notebook computer integrates Saudi Arabia's national large language model with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite platform and the Qualcomm AI Hub to bring sovereign AI to the edge. Qualcomm plans to integrate ALLaM with all its edge devices including mobile phones and computers in automobiles.
SO WHAT? - The past two years of rapid development for large language models has created many power-hungry models that require significant levels of data centre compute to perform effectively. Despite the increasing availability of small language models (SLMs) that can run locally on PCs, performance issues remain. The new ALLaM AI PC integrates SDAIA's ALLaM 7B LLM with Qualcomm powerful Snapdragon X Elite AI chip to provide fast GenAI inferencing at the edge, and the ability to seamlessly reference LLMs via the network for more complex tasks. The integration and level of performance is a world first.
Here are some highlights about the ALLaM AI PC announcement;
Qualcomm and Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) have launched the ALLaM AI PC, a first-of-its-kind fully integrated AI personal computer with on-device AI and seamless hybrid AI cloud access.
The announcement was made on the main stage during day one of LEAP25 in Riyadh by H.E. Abdullah Alswaha Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Tareq Amin, former CEO of Aramco Digital and Yaser Al-Onaizan, CEO of the National Center for AI (NCAI), and Qualcomm CFO and COO Akash Palkiwalla.
The new AI PC integrates a 7 billion parameter ALLaM model with Qualcomm's powerful Snapdragon X Elite edge AI chip and the Qualcomm AI Hub, to provide sovereign AI at the edge with or without network connectivity.
The ALLaM AI PC is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite AI chip, the most powerful processor for a PC ever built with the longest battery life. Snapdragon is able to both lower the latency for GenAI use and significantly reduce the cost of inferencing.
According to Amin, the new PC prototype could later be mass produced by the Public Investment Fund's electronics group Alat.
The ALLaM LLM is now available via the Qualcomm AI Hub, making it easy for developers to build experiences on top of the model.
Qualcomm also announced the ALLaM Playground, where developers can go in and try out hybrid AI. between an edge device and the Qualcomm AI Hub.
