The initiative aims to equip one million Lebanese people with generative AI and prompt engineering skills, targeting all age groups and backgrounds rather than a specific professional sector. The launch came during a meeting covering bilateral cooperation and regional stability.
SO WHAT? - A million-person target for a country of roughly 5.5 million people is an ambitious ask by any measure, and it comes at a moment when Lebanon is trying to rebuild basic state capacity. However, this is a broad AI literacy initiative, rather than an ambition to create coding expertise, so it has a good chance of success. The AI literacy goal mirrors the approach the UAE and Saudi Arabia have both have taken to enhance knowledge and productivity on a national level. For the UAE, it’s another win out of its AI soft-power playbook.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting lasting security and stability in Lebanon and the development aspirations of the Lebanese people.
The initiative forms part of GEEP’s broader mandate to share UAE government expertise and build institutional and human capacity in partner governments.
The meeting was also attended by H.E. Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, H.E. Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State, H.E. Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, Minister of State, and Sheikh Nahyan bin Saif Al Nahyan, Deputy Minister of State.
