Valeo opens AI Development Centre in Cairo
Valeo’s Cairo centre goes from R&D hub to global AI development base
#Egypt #R&D — Global automotive technology company Valeo has inaugurated an AI Development Centre in Cairo, marking its 20th anniversary in Egypt and a significant expansion of its engineering presence in the country. Launched in the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Raafat Hendy and Valeo Group Chief Executive Christophe Périllat, the centre opens with more than 50 engineers and plans to grow to over 100 specialists. The Cairo site is already the Valeo Group’s largest software R&D centre in North Africa. The operation contributes approximately 50 percent of the Group’s global software production, with 35 percent of all validated software code now produced using AI as of Q1 2026.
SO WHAT? — Valeo Egypt is not a regional outpost. It is the engine room of a €20.9 billion global technology company’s software operation. The opening of an AI Development Centre there is a signal that Egypt’s engineering talent pool has reached a level of maturity that global technology companies trust with their most strategic production. For Egypt, Valeo’s expansion provides a concrete validation of the country’s push to position Cairo as a high-value R&D destination.
KEY POINTS:
Valeo has inaugurated a new AI Development Centre in Cairo, starting with more than 50 engineers and targeting expansion to over 100 specialists. The centre will accelerate AI integration across Valeo’s global organisation and develop high-level tools for next-generation smart mobility software.
The Cairo site is already the largest software R&D centre in North Africa and within the Valeo Group, and has a talent pool of 3,000 engineers. The operation contributes approximately 50 percent of the Group’s total global software production.
As of Q1 2026, 35 percent of all validated software code produced by Valeo globally is generated using AI tools, with coding assist tools deployed to all software engineers worldwide. The Cairo AI centre is designed to accelerate that integration further across embedded software and software production.
Valeo Egypt was established in 2005 and has grown over two decades into a high-value engineering hub that now sits at the centre of the Group’s global software strategy — a trajectory that the new AI centre is designed to extend into the next phase of the company’s development.
The centre joins a global Valeo AI network of more than 200 AI experts and a dedicated AI research centre, with the Cairo hub positioned as a key node.
Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology described the centre as a landmark in the country’s 20-year relationship with Valeo, framing it as evidence of Egypt’s competitiveness as a global R&D destination and its capacity to attract high-value ICT investment and knowledge transfer.
Valeo Group reported €20.9 billion in sales in 2025, employing 100,000 people across 29 countries with 59 R&D centres and 149 production plants.
