Telecom industry partners develop Arabic Telecom LLM
Khalifa University 6G Centre collaborates on Arabic telecom AI model
#UAE #ArtificialIntelligence - UAE research institution Khalifa University's 6G Research Centre, Dubai telecom provider du, Nokia, Microsoft, and international standards body ITU have launched TelecomGPT-Arabic, the first Arabic-language large language model (LLM) purpose-built for telecom operations. The breakthrough AI assistant now delivers real-time network and device issue resolution to du’s internal teams through culturally fluent dialogue, supporting both internal operations and customer-facing functions. The new telecom LLM creates a new benchmarks for personalised, human-centric telecom AI-enabled support across Arabic-speaking markets.
SO WHAT? - TelecomGPT Arabic was developed and trained in the region, for the region, ensuring linguistic precision and cultural relevance, whilst delivering expert support to telecom teams working in the Arab world. The new LLM empowers telecom providers to deliver instant, intelligent, and locally aligned support. It also creates an opportunity to enhance telecom customer service across the region, by supporting customer service and telecom professionals in their own language.
Here are some key details about the Arabic telecom LLM project:
UAE research institution Khalifa University's 6G Research Centre, Dubai telecom provider du, Nokia, Microsoft, and international standards body ITU have launched TelecomGPT Arabic, first Arabic-language large language model (LLM) purpose-built for telecom operations.
The AI model was developed and trained entirely in the region, for the region, ensuring linguistic precision and cultural relevance, enabling telecom providers to deliver instant, intelligent, and locally aligned customer support through voice-first interfaces.
The model serves dual purposes: supporting internal teams for customer complaint handling, device issue resolution, and operational insights, whilst enabling customer-facing functions with scalable multilingual capabilities.
TelecomGPT-Arabic operates through ITU's AI for Good ecosystem, combining collaborative innovation with global best practices to advance the UAE's digital leadership vision on the international stage.
The development of TelecomGPT-Arabic follows the development of TelecomGPT, the first-of-its-kind telecom LLM development by Khalifa University and Technology Innovation Institute (TII) last year.
ZOOM OUT - Since opening in 2023, Khalifa University's 6G Research Centre has established itself as a pioneer in telecom-specific AI development. Last year it announced the development of TelecomGPT, a joint research project developed with Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII). TelecomGPT was a first-of-its-kind telecom industry-specific large language model, which excelled in available telecom language model benchmarks. Earlier this year the Global telecom industry association GSMA launched the first benchmarking framework for real-world telecom use cases, developed the 6G Reseach Centre, Hugging Face, and The Linux Foundation. TelecomGPT-Arabic continues the research centre’s work in developing AI models for 6G and the future of telecommunications.
