Skills initiative targets youth and public sector, aligns with AI Strategy 2025–2030
#Egypt #skills – Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft’s Egypt subsidiary to train 100,000 individuals in AI technologies. The agreement supports the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030, focusing on building AI capabilities among youth and public sector employees. The initiative will deliver tailored training programmes, practical experience, and technical consultations to promote responsible, impactful AI use across government and industry.
SO WHAT? –A core part of Egypt’s strategy is to build AI capability at scale, to both support national digital transformation and position the country as an outsourcing hub for AI and AI-powered services. According to data from Statista, revenue fro Egypt’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) market is expected to reach $523.2 million by the end of 2025, and approach $800 million by 2029. Whilst other technology vendors have AI skills initiatives in Egypt, this week’s initiative could be the most far-reaching to-date.

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has signed an MoU with Microsoft to train 100,000 individuals in AI technologies, targeting youth and government employees.
The initiative supports the second phase of Egypt’s National AI Strategy (2025–2030), focused on data governance, infrastructure, legal frameworks, and human capital.
The programme includes hands-on AI training, curated learning paths, and mentorship tailored to Egypt’s development goals.
It will also provide technical consultations to help ministries adopt AI tools that improve public service delivery and operational efficiency.
The MoU promotes responsible AI through shared global best practices and alignment with Egypt’s Responsible AI Charter.
A multi-stakeholder dialogue will explore policy and regulatory frameworks to ensure sustainable AI governance and innovation.
The initiative may expand into other African countries, aligning with Egypt’s growing regional leadership in digital skills development.
The programme is part of a broader effort to align workforce capabilities with the global AI ecosystem and future job market needs.
Egypt’s long-term goal is to use AI as a lever for socioeconomic transformation, with a focus on inclusion, ethics, and innovation.
ZOOM OUT – Microsoft has announced a series of national education and training agreements with African governments over the past few months. The company’s AI Skills Initiative for Africa aims to train one million South Africans, one million Kenyans and one million Nigerians with essential AI and cybersecurity skills. Microsoft competitors Google, IBM and Oracle also have also announced AI-focused skills initiatives across Africa and the Middle East, as countries strive to make their workforces AI-ready.
