Huawei to train 25,000 Egyptian students in AI
Chinese tech giant to provide AI training to students at three Egyptian universities
#Egypt #education - Chinese technology giant Huawei has partnered with three Egyptian universities to launch a comprehensive artificial intelligence education programme, providing free AI learning access to over 25,000 students across Al-Azhar University, Egyptian-Russian University, and 6th of October University. The Huawei AI Programme delivers seven interactive online sessions in both Arabic and English, requiring no prior technical knowledge and available globally through the Huawei Talent platform. The initiative aims to democratise AI education and prepare Egypt's youth for digital transformation careers.
SO WHAT? - Egypt is a strategic market for Huawei and the technology firm has a variety of education, government and national infrastructure initiatives aimed at developing the market. Last year, Huawei opened a new Cairo office to support its Carrier, Enterprise, Cloud, Digital Power and Consumer business units, while establishing a Global Service Center employing over 900 people. The company also has a long-term strategic agreement in place with Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education, aiming to bridge the gap between college graduates' capabilities and enterprises' expectations for graduates. The new agreements with leading universities align with Egypt’s Vision 2030, the country’s national AI strategy and support Huawei’s strong relations with the government.
Here are some key points about Huawei’s education initiative:
Huawei has signed memorandums of understanding with three Egyptian universities to launch a digital artificial intelligence education programme, providing free AI learning access to over 25,000 students.
The programme will be made available to 10,000 students at Al-Azhar University, 10,000 at Egyptian-Russian University and a further 10,000 at 6th of October University (O6U).
The programme is being launched via the Huawei Instructors Forum 2025, showcasing the company's latest educational technologies and digital learning solutions for Egyptian higher education.
Seven-module AI course delivered entirely online with animated content, designed for accessibility across all educational backgrounds and available in both Arabic and English languages.
Students gain access through the established Huawei Talent platform, which already serves educational institutions globally with technology-focused learning resources and certification programmes.
The programme builds upon Huawei's existing ICT Academy network in Egypt, expanding from traditional information technology training into artificial intelligence and machine learning disciplines.
The AI education programme aligns with Egypt's national digital transformation strategy, targeting youth employment in technology sectors and reducing the digital skills divide.
Huawei’s initiative is supported by the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo.
Huawei operates across 170 countries with 208,000 employees, serving over three billion people through information and communications technology infrastructure and smart device solutions.
ZOOM OUT - Huawei's training programme follows similar AI education initiatives announced earlier this year with IBM and Microsoft. The two tech giants have launched their own digital training programmes, each targeting 100,000 trainees to support the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025-2030. Egypt has the biggest pipeline of computer science graduates in the Middle East and has focused on developing its software and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sectors to leverage its tech talent. BPO revenues are projected to reach $800 million by 2029 according to Statista.
