SDAIA receives new ISO AI certification
SDAIA 'first global entity' to receive new ISO AI certification
#Saudi #ISO - Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA) has received certification for the ISO 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management Systems standard, becoming the first 'global entity' to get certified. The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) first published ISO/IEC 42001 in December last year, to help organisations develop a robust governance framework for AI. The standard is aimed at organisations developing, providing, or using AI-based products or services.
SO WHAT? - ISO 42001 is a first-of-its-kind AI international standard for artificial intelligence management systems and has yet to become implemented globally by organisations. ISO standards in the technology industry largely govern such things as quality management, health and safety, security and the environment, rather than the technologies themselves. However, AI’s relationship with data, increases the potential risks associated with personal data, corporate data, national data, information copyright and other data issues. As a government regulator, being one of the first to achieve the ISO 42001 accreditation shows that SDAIA is really walking-the-walk and also, perhaps signals to Saudi organisations that this new AI management standard is worthy of early consideration.
Here are some key details about SDAIA's accreditation for ISO 42001:
Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA) has announced that it has been certified for the new ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management Systems standard, becoming the first 'global entity' to get certified.
The ISO 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management Systems standard was first published by the International Organisation for Standardisation in December 2023.
SDAIA has already been accredited for a number of ISO standards. These include ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety management, ISO 14001 for adopting the best practices, procedures, and policies to elevate quality, environmental, health, and safety management, and ISO 22301 for business continuity management.
Aiming to begin to address global challenges in AI, the ISO 42001 was developed by many stakeholders including representatives from academia, industry, regulatory bodies, and non-governmental organisations, from all over the world.
ISO 42001 tackles a number of global challenges associated with AI, such as ethical considerations, data privacy, security risks, and the need for transparency.
The new ISO standard was developed to both help organisations achieve maximum benefits from AI, while providing a reference for AI usage, assuring stakeholders that AI is being developed, governed, and used responsibly.
Core components of the ISO 42001 Standard include: AI Management Systems (AIMS): AI Risk Assessment; AI Impact Assessment; Data Protection and AI Security; and Technical Specifications Guiding AI Management.
