ADNOC awards AIQ $340 million agentic AI contract
ADNOC awards landmark deal for world-first agentic AI solution
#UAE #energy - Abu Dhabi-based AI solutions provider AIQ has secured a $340 million contract from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to deploy ENERGYai, the world's first large-scale agentic AI solution for the energy sector. The three-year agreement follows a successful proof-of-concept phase and will see AIQ implement its groundbreaking technology across ADNOC's upstream operations. Built on 70 years of proprietary data, ENERGYai combines large language model technology with agentic AI to transform critical tasks from seismic analysis to real-time process monitoring. AIQ is a joint venture between ADNOC and Presight.
SO WHAT? - The contract could prove to be a a watershed moment for AI in the energy sector, moving beyond limited experimental applications to full-scale industrial deployment. By reducing essential business processes from months to days, ADNOC saus ENERGYai demonstrates the transformative potential of agentic AI systems in heavy industry. The deal signals a step-change in how energy companies operate, with AI becoming central to core operations with the potential to set new efficiency and sustainability benchmarks for the global energy industry.
Here are some more details about the contract:
Abu Dhabi-based AI company AIQ has secured a $340 million three-year contract from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to deploy ENERGYai, the world's first large-scale agentic AI solution for the energy sector.
The contract will see ENERGYai implemented across ADNOC's upstream operations following successful completion of a proof-of-concept phase.
ENERGYai integrates a 70 billion parameter large language model (LLM) and autonomous agents to create a system designed to “perceive, think, learn, and act” autonomously, enhancing operational efficiency.
Specifically trained on ADNOC's operational workflows and leveraging 70 years of proprietary data, the system enables engineers to talk to ADNOC's proprietary data, delivering new insights and dramatically increasing individual productivity across the organisation.
Implementation is expected to reduce time for essential business processes from months to days while simultaneously reducing costs and emissions.
ENERGYai is being developed by ADNOC and AIQ in collaboration with G42 Group and Microsoft, integrating best-in-class technologies including open subsurface data universe (OSDU) frameworks, and OpenAI models with energy-specific frameworks..
The first operational version of ENERGYai is expected by mid-2025, featuring five AI agents covering subsurface operations that will be deployed across several upstream assets.
AIQ plans to scale the application to thousands of additional wells and eventually to all of ADNOC's 28+ producing fields, including some of the world's largest oilfields.
ZOOM OUT - With an ambition is to become the world's most AI-enabled energy group, ADNOC already harnesses breakthrough technologies in its planning, decision-making and operations. ADNOC opened its Panorama Digital Command Centre in 2017, an AI-powered digital hub that provides senior management with access to insights, alerts and analysis based on big data from across its operations. The world's first autonomous well control system RoboWell, developed with the group's joint-venture AI company AIQ, is now being deployed across 300 onshore and offshore wells in Abu Dhabi. Now, ADNOC plans to set a new benchmark with ENERGYai, connecting data from across its entire enterprise and bridging the gap between data-intensive energy operations and sustainability goals.
