The deal includes designing a national platform based on large language models (LLMs), incorporating Moroccan languages, culture, legal framework and digital identity.

Core to the plan is to create AI models that are trained on Moroccan language, culture, legal framework and digital identity.

ZOOM OUT – Nations are racing to establish AI ethics frameworks amid rising concerns over bias and misuse. UNESCO’s guidelines, adopted by countries including France and Canada, provide a universal blueprint. Morocco’s ethical AI model deal strengthens North Africa’s role in shaping equitable AI practices, aligning with a broader global push for responsible innovation. The first-ever global standard on AI ethics, UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence’ were introduced in 2021 and adopted by all 194 member states.
