Qualcomm to open AI & IoT engineering centre in UAE
New Qualcomm engineering centre draws on 40 years of innovation
#UAE #engineering - US-based developer of wireless technologies and AI computing Qualcomm Technologies Inc. will open a state-of-the-art Global Engineering Center in Abu Dhabi through a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). An extension of Qualcomm’s global engineering programme, the new facility will spearhead technical innovation in artificial intelligence, data centres, and industrial IoT to meet growing demand for high-performance connectivity and power-efficient computing across key industries. The global tech firm joined the UAE Ministry of Economy’s NextGen FDI programme earlier this year and the news of the new engineering centre follows recent announcements of Qualcomm partnerships with G42 company Core42 and UAE-based telecom and technology provider e&.
SO WHAT? - This investment is both a new milestone in Abu Dhabi's ambition to position itself as a global technology hub, and highlights Qualcomm’s rapid expansion in the region. The emirate is increasingly attracting not only representative offices of global tech firms, but also engineering, innovation and R&D centres that develop technology and create new jobs. Although present in the Middle East for the past 17 years, Qualcomm has recently accelerated its activities in the region signing new partners and contracts.
Here are some key points about this announcement:
Qualcomm has plans for a new Global Engineering Centre, which will become an integral part of its global network of engineering hubs. The centre will focus specifically on next-generation technology in AI, industrial IoT and data center solutions for both regional and global markets. The initiative will also cultivate local talent and foster job creation in Abu Dhabi and across the region.
The new centre was announced following a Memorandum of Understanding between Qualcomm Technologies Inc. and Abu Dhabi Investment Office, signed by His Excellency Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO, and Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm.
The new Qualcomm new Global Engineering Centre aims to collaborate with Abu Dhabi-based and global companies to support local strategic initiatives in the region, delivering best-in-class products and services for key growth sectors including energy, manufacturing, logistics, retail and smart mobility.
This development follows Qualcomm's February announcement that it joined the UAE Ministry of Economy's NextGen FDI initiative, a programme designed to attract high-potential digitally enabled global businesses to establish operations in the country.
The Global Engineering Center is also expected to enhance Qualcomm's international capabilities in delivering advanced connectivity and computing solutions, reinforcing its position as a leader in technology innovation while contributing to the UAE's digital transformation journey.
Qualcomm also announced a strategic collaboration with UAE-based a global tech, telecom and investment group e&. The partnership aims to help accelerate the digital transformation for the government, enterprise and industrial sectors, including edge computing.
Last year Abu Dhabi-based G42 subsidiary Core42 formed a technology collaboration with Qualcomm to deliver Qualcomm’s Cloud AI 100 solutions to customers via its cutting-edge cloud computing platform Condor.
ZOOM OUT - The opening of the new Global Engineering Centre will draw on Qualcomm's 40-year legacy of technology leadership and relentless innovation, and an investment of more than $100 billion in R&D. Qualcomm has repeatedly transformed the wireless industry through breakthrough technologies from CDMA to 5G and AI. The company's participation in over 200 global standards organizations has established it as a critical driver of industry-wide advancement. This new centre in Abu Dhabi will leverage Qualcomm's proven expertise in developing leading-edge AI, high-performance computing, and connectivity solutions to tackle complex challenges while furthering its mission of "engineering human progress.
