Thailand's TIDC partners with G42 to boost digital infrastructure
G42 to help TIDC create 'Virtual Data Embassies' for foreign cloud customers
#Thailand #UAE #infrastructure – Thailand International Digital Business & Finance Centre (TIDC) has signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with G42 to enhance Thailand’s AI and cloud capabilities. The Abu Dhabi-based AI powerhouse will support TIDC’s development of the AI value chain, including digital infrastructure and talent development. The group will also help establish Virtual Data Embassies to enable sovereign AI and Cloud infrastructure as host provider to countries in Southeast Asia. TIDC aims to accelerate Thailand’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
SO WHAT? – The new Thailand agreement is one of an increasing number of global deals signed by G42 Group. Earlier this month the group announced a strategic investment in France, partnering with DataOne, Europe’s first giga-scale AI hosting infrastructure data centre. Meanwhile, last week, G42’s public digital services company Presight signed a $190 million smart city deal with the City of Astana in Kazakhtan. The latest TIDC deal offers further evidence that G42 is making good on its global ambitions.
Here are some key points about TIDC and the new agreement:
Thailand International Digital Business & Finance Centre (TIDC) and G42 signed an MoU on 29 January 2025 to collaborate on AI and cloud infrastructure development in Thailand.
The TIDC is developing a digital business and finance hub in Thailand to enable future innovation across diverse digital sectors. The centre aims to attract investments from digital and online businesses, start-ups, and blue-chip companies, domestically and globally.
Announced last year, TIDC has the support of both Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) and National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) to bolster national AI and cloud initiatives.
G42 will provide AI-driven solutions, including AI cloud infrastructure and AI applications, to support Thailand’s digital transformation.
The initiative includes plans to establish Virtual Data Embassies to enhance digital sovereignty and ensure secure data hosting for foreign businesses and government entities.
A national large language model will also be developed by G42 under the agreement. The group has previously developed and launched LLMs for India and Khazakhstan trained in Hindi and Kazakh languages respectively.
The collaboration aims to help position Thailand as a regional centre for AI and digital technology within Southeast Asia.
ZOOM OUT – Thailand’s data centre market is currently undergoing rapid expansion, earning the country a reputation for being a strategic hub for global digital infrastructure. According to the Kasikorn Research Center, between 2024 and 2027, investments in the data centre sector are expected to exceed US$7.8 billion, representing 1.1% of Thailand’s GDP. Major global players are active in the market, including Dubai-based Damac Group through its subsidiary Edgnex Data Centers, which will see its first Thai data centre become operational this year with an initial capacity of 5 megawatts.
