ADNOC’s AI powered port system slashes turnaround time
First GCC AI smart port deployed across key UAE petroleum ports
#UAE #maritime - ADNOC Logistics & Services, the ports operator of ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), has deployed the GCC’s first AI-powered smart port solution to optimise operations across its ports. The solution, developed by Innovez One, trims vessel turnaround by up to 90 percent, cuts service sourcing from three hours to just 45 seconds, and is projected to save $950,000 (AED 3.5 million) by 2028, while increasing jetty utilisation by 20 percent and improving vessel management by 10 percent.
SO WHAT? - The new smart port solution demonstrates ADNOC’s growing ability to translate its AI strategy into tangible operational gains and cost savings. The expected $950,000 in operational expenses saved by the new smart port solution, add to the hundreds of millions of dollars already saved by the ADNOC Group as a result of AI-related digital transformation.
Here are some key details about the implementation:
ADNOC Logistics & Services, the ports operator of ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), has deployed the GCC’s first AI-powered smart port solution to optimise operations across its ports.
The AI system reduces vessel service sourcing time from approximately three hours to 45 seconds, achieving up to 90 percent reduction in turnaround.
Annual savings are expected of about 3,000 hours of work and $950,000 (AED 3.5m) by 2028.
Jetty utilisation across ADNOC L&S petroleum ports will increase by 20 percent, with vessel management efficiency up by 10 percent.
The system is now in operation across key ports including Das, Zirku, Mubaraz, Ruwais, and Jebel Dhana.
This is part of ADNOC’s broader AI efforts: its ENERGYai platform (developed with AIQ, Microsoft and G42) embeds agentic AI across its value chain to improve operations, reduce emissions, and speed up critical workflows.
ADNOC has previously deployed Neuron 5, an AI-enabled process-monitoring and optimisation tool to cut unplanned shutdowns by up to 50 percent and extend maintenance intervals by 20 percent.
ZOOM OUT - The new ports AI deployment aligns with the ADNOC Group’s goal of becoming the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. The energy giant’s efforts to introduce AI at all levels of the organisation began with harnessing the wealth of data it has at its disposal to provide better and more comprehensive analytics across its operations. In 2023, ADNOC began deploying an autonomous well-control system across 300 onshore and offshore wells. Meanwhile during the past year, ADNOC began implementing its ENERGYai initiative, aiming to embed agentic AI into workflows from exploration to operations, lowering cost, time and emissions.
